Alessia Filippi

Alessia Filippi was born on the 23 June 1987 in Rome and from a very small age she had a passion for swimming. This passion has lead her to train for many hours per day for many years, but this hard work has given its rewards and she has now won many medals and broken many records. On 12 December 2008, at the European Short Course Swimming Championships 2008 held in Rijeka, she set the new world record in the 800 m freestyle (short course), with the time of 8:04.53 and in 2009 she won the gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.

Alessia has been a big advocate towards campaigns related to children and youth and is a supporter of YUNGA in promoting activities to empower youth, fight social injustices and combat hunger and malnutrition.

Alessia is a great example that with commitment and hard work you can achieve anything.
