The YUNGA Super Conductor Approach

YUNGA has a very simple but powerful method to develop its activities. It is based on bringing together partners with common mandates and objectives and using existing resources and infrastructures to develop joint initiatives and activities which everyone can participate in. Allowing everyone to contribute with their skills, resources and know-how is an efficient and effective way that requires minimum inputs but provide high rewards and benefits to all. The activities are based on thematic modules with sub-themes related to the specific action being developed.

Climate change was the first thematic module to be developed and included sub-themes on awareness, educational resources/activities, educational policy, local action and youth engagement in internatinal negotiations. Each theme was led by different organizations with the support of other partners. The UN agencies such as FAO, UNEP, UNFCCC, UNICEF, UNESCO, WMO, etc., provided technical support and access to international arenas while youth organizations, such as WAGGGS, provided their know-how, outreach and engagement of children and young people throughout their extensive global networks reaching local communities.

The result is a “sea” of international agencies, civil society and local actors who implement activities in schools, youth groups and other local settings. A mechanism is created that has a global coverage but directly engages children and young people in taking action on issues of environmental and social concern and creating a sustainable future.

The conductive force of one coordinated response.
